Welcome to the Winter Issue of The Broadcast

We’re very excited to bring you this next edition of The Broadcast. Like our inaugural issue, last Fall, this issue is packed with stories that highlight what makes Salem Community High School such a special place. Whether it’s the dedication of our students, the hard work of our staff, or the incredible support of our community, there’s a lot here to make us all proud.

You’ll read about the team effort behind our annual Canned Food Drive, where students collected over 20,000 items for local families. It’s a reminder of what we can accomplish when we all pitch in. Speaking of teamwork, this issue also dives into the incredible job our Co-Op students are doing, like Makayla Braddy gaining real-world experience in dentistry and Cole Wimberly learning the ropes at WJBD Radio.

We’re also spotlighting the amazing work of teachers like Jodi Childress, who’s turning computer science into a hands-on adventure with tools like Minecraft Education, and Kelsey Pogue and Lynnsey Heinzmann, who’ve made sure every student has a little extra cheer during the holidays with their gift card project.

And let’s not forget the folks behind the scenes. Our grounds team has taken our football field to a whole new level, earning national recognition, while students like Sadie White are making waves on a statewide scale through her work with the Illinois Lincoln Award panel.

This is just a snapshot of what’s inside this Winter issue. It’s not just about the big wins—it’s about the heart and hustle that go into making SCHS a place we can all be proud of.

Thank you for being part of the Wildcat family. Your support keeps this place running strong, and we’re all grateful for that every day.

With #SalemWildcatPride,

Dr. Brad Detering
Superintendent, Salem Community High School
