From the Office of Dr. John Asplund, Superintendent
Galesburg CUSD 205
It is with great pride and anticipation that I welcome you to the very first issue of The SilverStreak—a new publication dedicated to sharing the remarkable stories of the people who make Galesburg CUSD 205 an exceptional place to live, learn, and grow.
Every day in our district, something extraordinary unfolds: a student gains confidence in a culinary lab, a teacher helps young learners find their voice, a custodian prepares a space that feels safe and cared for, a coach or liaison forges a connection that changes a student’s path. These are the moments that define who we are—not just as a school system, but as a community.
In launching The SilverStreak, we’ve partnered with Journey12 to help tell those stories in a way that honors their depth and significance. These pages go beyond announcements or accolades. They offer a deeper, more intimate look at the people behind the programs—real reflections of lives being shaped, supported, and strengthened through education.
In this first issue, you’ll meet educators and staff whose work spans the full arc of a student’s journey—from the foundational years of preschool to the hands-on career pathways in our high school vocational programs. You’ll read about legacy teachers and newcomers, about programs that empower students with special needs, and about staff who make it their mission to ensure every child and every family feels like they belong here.
What ties these stories together is more than geography. It’s commitment. The people featured in these pages don’t just do their jobs—they pour themselves into their roles, often quietly, always purposefully. And in doing so, they help our students build the confidence, skills, and character that will carry them far beyond our district boundaries.
This magazine is a tribute to them—and to the belief that public education remains one of our most powerful tools for equity, opportunity, and transformation.
Thank you for taking the time to read, reflect, and celebrate alongside us. We’re proud to share these stories with you. And we’re just getting started.
With gratitude,
Dr. John Asplund
Superintendent, Galesburg CUSD 205
